The BBQ World Cup is a global championship that invites top-performing pitmasters from approved barbecue events to compete on the world stage. The BBQ World Cup is not owned or operated by individual qualifier events.

The BBQ World Cup will feature a large field of top domestic and international pitmasters. Final team counts will be announced soon.

Teams earn their place by competing in an official BBQ World Cup Qualifier. Each Qualifier awards a limited number of spots. The promoter of the event will have those details.

Yes. Only officially designated BBQ World Cup Qualifiers count toward earning a spot.

Yes. Several domestic and international competitions will serve as Qualifiers.

The invite goes to the Head Cook who was registered at the Qualifier event where the team earned their spot. Some events have Sponsored tents with many cooks, so the Sponsor/Head Cook determines who on their team would compete at the BBQ World Cup. The qualifying position belongs to the registered team and head cook — no substitutions for qualification.

Qualification spots are non-transferable. However, if a qualified Head Cook has already secured a spot through a previous BBQ World Cup Qualifier, the invitation will pass down to the next eligible finisher at that event, as determined by the event organizer.

That is okay. Teams compete under the qualifier event's existing rules. If you earn a qualifying spot at an approved event, you qualify for the BBQ World Cup. The BBQ World Cup competition rules will be published once finalized.

Yes. If you joined the BBQ World Cup membership before your contest, the BBQ Word Cup entry fee is $500 per team. If you are not a registered BBQ World Cup member, the fee is $1,250 per team. Event entry fees for Qualifiers are handled separately by each Promoter.

A $50 annual membership (per pitmaster) gives you access to member pricing on Finals entry fees, judging eligibility, and other benefits. Membership must be completed before competing at a qualifier event to lock in member pricing.

Each team consists of one (1) Head Cook and one (1) registered Teammate. The Teammate cannot have been a head cook on any BBQ team for more than 3 sanctioned contests in each of the last two years. All teams and teammates will be subject to final review by The Pitmaster Committee.

The BBQ World Cup consults a Pitmaster Committee on qualifier selection and general best practices. All World Cup-specific formats — categories, turn-in order, surprise/special meats, and scoring — are decided internally and kept confidential to avoid any real or perceived conflicts of interest.

The championship is a challenging, multi-day cook designed to test pitmasters both mentally and technically. All rules are currently in development and will be fully published before tickets and travel packages go on sale. Teams should plan to be present for all three competition days. Day 1: 100 teams compete. Day 2: Field narrows to 50 teams. Day 3: Final 25 teams compete for the championship. Full rules, categories, and turn-in details will be announced once finalized.

Judging and scoring are currently being finalized. The approach is being designed to incorporate experience from multiple sanctioning bodies and blend best practices from across the competition barbecue landscape. Details will be announced once finalized.

The Grand Champion of the BBQ World Cup will receive a $1,000,000 cash prize — awarded to the best pitmaster in the world. There will be additional prize money distributed across other categories and teams. Full prize breakdowns will be announced closer to the event.

Over four days, BBQ diehards, families, and fans will experience top brands, cooking equipment, technology, food products, live demos, tastings, retail activations, masterclasses, stage competitions, immersive experiences, and more — all alongside the World Cup competition itself.
